A major sea search has been launched after a passenger was reported missing from a Brittany Ferry.

The Mont St Michel left Portsmouth at 10.45pm last night and arrived in Caen at 7.30am today.

A spokesman for Brittany Ferries said an unattended bag was discovered in a cabin, containing a passport and other effects which suggests the passenger may be missing.

The Coastguard has now launched a search for the missing passenger in the English Channel.

No more information about the passenger has been released.
