Sheep dogs and straw buildings at park show

TRADITIONAL building materials such as straw, cob and hemp will be used during demonstrations at a country show this weekend.

People will be able to relax on bales of hay at the South Downs Show – and even have a go at building with straw.

The activity will be just one of many at the event, which takes place at Queen Elizabeth Country Park off the A3 from 10am to 5pm throughout the bank holiday weekend.

Organiser Terena Plowright said: ‘We are hugely lucky to have Bee Rowan from Strawbuild demonstrating as she has only just returned from abroad where she is in demand so this is a fantastic opportunity for people to meet and speak to someone with years of experience in this building technique.

‘If we don’t start thinking about alternative building techniques we will end up wrecking this fantastic landscape and so a country show seemed the ideal place to start opening people’s minds to the options.’

There will also be sheepdog trials, a range of farm animals, crafts and a funfair.
