Shock after rail tragedy

POLICE have confirmed a man died after being hit by a train near Emsworth railway station.

Investigations continue to formally identify the man and inform his family.

People spoke of their shock about the tragedy.

Michelle Pascoe, who runs the Carriages coffee shop at the station, said: ‘It’s just really sad to hear.

‘This is such a happy place for people to come. It’s got a nice feel and it’s sad to hear news like that.’

As reported, officers from British Transport Police were called to the line at about 7.30pm on Monday.

Medics from South Central Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman added: ‘Investigations are ongoing to formally identify the man and inform his family. The incident is currently being treated as non-suspicious.’
