A DISUSED shop in Portsmouth is to be converted into two houses.

The shop at 325 London Road, North End, which currently has a boarded yellow shop-front, will have a rear extension added.

A ground-floor bay window will also be added to the building, despite an objection from a neighbour about previous work damaging his property.

The Portsmouth Society has offered support for the plan, praising the addition of a ground-floor bay window.

The society says the development will 'enhance the streetscene'.

Planners at Portsmouth City Council agreed to approve the scheme after planning officer Simon Barnett told them: 'The issues raised by the occupier of the adjoining property are not considered to represent a justification for the refusal of planning permission.'
