GENEROUS shoppers donated hundreds of pounds worth of food during a neighbourhood food collection.

Tesco ran its fourth neighbourhood food collection last week in a bid to collect five million meals for those in need.

All food donated went to foodbank charity the Trussell Trust and food redistribution charity FareShare.

Simon Beale, store manager at Fareham Tesco, in Quay Street, said the scheme had been very successful and the store had collected hundreds of pounds worth of food.

Mr Beale said: ‘Our customers were incredibly generous when we held our last collection and I’m pleased to say we collected an even bigger total this time around, plus Tesco will top up the donations by a further 30 per cent. Thank you to everyone who donated.’
