THE search is on for short break carers to help disabled children and their families.

There is a real need for more short break carers across West Sussex.

Looking after a child or young person with a disability is demanding, so sharing the care, even for a short time, can make a real difference.

To highlight the need for respite, Help Share the Care Week begins on Monday. It is run by the Short Break Network in a bid to raise awareness of the need for short break carers across the country.

They can help for a few hours during the day, or for overnight stays.

They help children develop independence, gain confidence and have a wider social network.

It also gives families the chance to spend quality time with their other children and do many things others take for granted such as going shopping without the anxiety of having to cope with wheelchairs.
