Singing loud with Christmas cheer

Have your say

IT takes more than a bit of rain to dampen the festive spirit in Clanfield.

It may have been a terrible day for the weather yesterday, but villagers turned out into the night for a good old sing-along.

Scores of families joined in the Christmas carol service by Clanfield Pond, which is off Chalton Lane.

The service could not have been more atmospheric or uplifting, with people of all ages singing their hearts out by torchlight.

The service was conducted by Canon Gill Hill, with music provided by the Salvation Army and Clanfield Junior School.

Enjoying the evening was Derren and Kerry Chamberlain and their two children, Lauren, six, and Freya, three.

Mr Chamberlain, who lives in Waterlooville but grew up in Clanfield, said: ‘It was great – it was all the community coming together.

‘It took you back to your childhood away from the hectic lives we all lead. It gets you in the mood for Christmas.’

The event has become a popular fixture on the calendar since the pond was restored.
