CHILDREN put on their skates for the chance to win a place in an ice show.

Planet Ice’s new programme Skating Stars proved to be an enormous success with youngsters in the Gosport area.

The programme, which launched earlier this month at the ice rink on Forest Way, in Gosport, was attended by 22 children who had never skated before.

Over the next few weeks Learn to Skate sessions are being held and those who show the biggest commitment and improvement will be asked to continue for a further six weeks.

Eventually, just five skaters will enter into a finals show with the chance to be in a national ice production with household names and championship skaters.

Rink manager Jill Grindrod said: ‘We have been overwhelmed with the response to the Skating Stars initiative. The sessions have been full of people wanting to take part.’
