Skinheads pull out all the stops to help Portsmouth mum with terminal cancer

THEY haven't got much hair '“ but what they do have is a lot of heart.

Skinheads from across the south gathered at The Froddington Arms, in Fratton, to raise money for a mum struck down with terminal cancer.

The event was organised by Hampshire Skinheads’ Association, which has more than 1,100 members on its Facebook page.

The All Stars Ska band provided the entertainment for the evening and there was an appearance from Pompey megafan John Westwood, who drew the raffle prizes.

The event raised £620 to help Kazz Dean, 48.

Kazz, who lives in Portsea, was given a month to live in January and told she could have no more treatment for her cancer.

But her 21-year-old twin daughters, Natasha Dean and Coral-Ann Dean, who are barmaids at the Froddington, are determined the family creates happy memories in Kazz’s final days.

The money will help pay for a family holiday.

Natasha said: ‘It’s absolutely amazing what they did.

‘It’s nice to know that people actually care.

‘My mum was shocked that people wanted to help.

‘I only started at The Froddington in November and they only met my mum in January. She’s been overwhelmed by how much people wanted to help her.’

Keith Thripp, 54, from Hilsea, helps to run the skinhead association.

Over the last year the members have raised about £4,000 for good causes.

He said the misconception that skinheads were ‘thuggish’ could not be further from the truth.

‘We just want to have a good time and give something back to the community,’ said the painter and decorator.

‘We are a bunch of good people.

‘We are made up of ex-policemen, we have a firefighter and we have a few ex-forces people.

‘We enjoy the music and camaraderie.’
