A CHANCE conversation at the dentist has led to needy families in Portsmouth being able to look forward to a happier Christmas.

It all began when a volunteer with the Salvation Army went to the SCA Trafalgar dental practice as a patient, and told receptionist Vicki Maxworth about the charity's Christmas Appeal.

Ever since, staff have donated boxes full of toys, chocolates and food, which will go to the poor, homeless and vulnerable people in the city.

The boxes were handed over to Melvyn Thomas, community centre manager of the Salvation Army's Southsea Citadel in Albert Road, Southsea, on Monday at the SCA Trafalgar dentistry practice in New Road, Portsmouth.
