THE fire brigade was called in after smoke was spotted rising over Rowner.

Watch manager Steve Bint from Gosport Fire Station said one fire engine was sent to the Little Woodham Living History Village in Howe Road at 12.40pm yesterday, but they found it was a false alarm.

Mr Bint said: ‘Someone phoned up saying there was a fire. It turned out to be a controlled burn of some rubbish. We just spoke to the person managing the fire to ascertain it was safe.’
