THE carnival was set up to promote pride in our community of Bridgemary
And last year the Bridgemary Carnival Association were so very proud to have also organised the Bridgemary welcome for the Olympic Torch.
Those of us there will never forget the fun and excitement of that day when we partied alongside the A32.
On Saturday the 20th of July we will be holding the seventh Bridgemary Carnival, which each year has surpassed our expectations.
In spite of some terrible weather in recent years our carnival has always gone ahead having up to 600 people at times parading through the streets of Bridgemary.
Last year we got so wet a large cardboard Titanic ‘sank’ in the middle of Nobes Avenue.
Therefore this year we have chosen as our theme as Whatever the Weather.
So be prepared to see snowmen, cut out suns, decorated umbrellas, English country gardens, Noah’s Ark, rainbows and goodness knows what else.
We have two bands in the parade this year, the Samba Band Big Noise and the Rose and Thistle Pipe Band.
With them and the free whistles we hand out you certainly will hear us.
We not only organise a carnival but a great afternoon of fun and entertainment on the Bridgemary School field afterwards with lots of stalls, Punch and Judy, arena events, music and food.
This year we have a climbing wall and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Road Show coming along, and a variety of sporting fun activities to have a go on for absolutely nothing.
