A CHICHESTER social club has been the target of suspected arsonists for a second night running.

Firefighters have put out a large fire inside the derelict club in Palmersfield Avenue, Chichester, which started at around 9.30pm last night.

Crews from Chichester, Bognor Regis, Selsey and a relief crew from Worthing managed to get the blaze under control by 12.42am and remain at the site this morning.

Four fire engines and 27 firefighters were involved in tackling the fire, which destroyed around 50 per cent of the building and left the rest badly damaged.

Firefighters had been called out to the same property at just before 9pm on Tuesday night and had managed to extinguish a small fire.

Fire crews said police are now investigating and the blaze is being treated as a suspected arson.
