COMMUNITY groups and charities could get a share of a £60,000 windfall.

The Co-operative has announced it has put the money up for grabs for community groups and charities in the Solent area.

The Co-operative’s Community Fund is raised by member customers opting to donate all or part of their annual dividend to good causes.

Last year 60 groups in the area benefited, including Solent Advanced Motorcyclists, a group that promotes safer riding.

The group received £2,000.

Tim Bennett, from Solent Advanced Motorcyclists, said: ‘The donation is made even more special by knowing that even in tough economic times, ordinary people have decided to give away their dividend to groups to make a difference in their local communities.’

Ian Parker, chairman of The Co-operative’s Solent Area Committee said: ‘The local area committee allocates grants from £200 to £2,000 every two months.’
