THEY are the scooter enthusiasts who are using their love of soul music for a cause close to their hearts.
Mark Warren, 55, from Hawthorn Crescent, Cosham, along with friends Peter Grady, 56, and John McLintock, 48, have organised a fundraising concert at Moneyfield sports and social club in Moneyfield Avenue, Copnor, tomorrow in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
But the event will also be held to raise money for close friend Amanda Drewry, who is battling cancer.
The friends attend a regular scooter meet in Cosham and came up with the idea of holding the event after forming a close friendship with Mrs Drewry.
The event will feature music from Soul Suspects, a DJ and a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses.
Mr Warren said: ‘We are hoping to raise £1,400 on the night.
‘Every lady who turns up will be given a pink carnation.
‘We held a similar night at Moneyfields, which was a big success, so we’re holding another one for Macmillan and Amanda.
Mrs Drewry said: ‘I know Mark from a circle of friends in the scooter club.
‘I started going four or five years ago but that’s dwindled with my illness.
‘I feel very humbled that they would do this for me. Every time I talk to Mark I well up.
‘It’s one of the most lovely things people can do for you.
‘I am still going through a lot but I am battling on.’
