FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a fire broke out in a block of flats in Landport.

The incident at Charlton House, in Temple Street, happened at 1.15am this morning.

The fire began in a store shed in the stairwell of the building.

Fire crews from Southsea used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put out the flames.

A ventilation fan was then used to get rid of the smoke.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by fire officers.

Pete Scott, White watch manager, said: ‘Occupants from the building made the 999 call.

‘Two appliances from Southsea attended and were there for about an hour.

‘The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.’

No one was harmed.
