A PAIR of Southsea food vendors have shown they’re top of their game.

Buckwells of Southsea in Osborne Road has won two categories at the Great Hampshire Sausage and Pie Competition.

The butchers came tops in the ‘meatballs and faggots’ and the ‘Hampshire sausage’ categories.

Bakery Mum and Dad’s Kitchen in Marion Road, Southsea, also won two categories – ‘speciality pie – cold eating’ and ‘speciality pie – hot eating’.

The winners were announced at a presentation at the Holiday Inn in Winchester. Sausage judge Jack Tuckley said he was thrilled with the fare on offer.

Mr Tuckley said: ‘I gave 100 points to one of the entries.

‘That is something I have only done on two other occasions in my 50 years of judging. You could tell a lot of TLC and attention to detail had gone into them.’

Hampshire Fare commercial manager Tracy Nash said: ‘Hampshire has so many talented butchers and today’s event really celebrates their skills.

‘It highlights the local meat products available across the county and the expertise and experience which goes into making them.

‘Well done to everyone who entered today and thank you to all those who supported the event.’

Pip and Donna Smith, a brother and sister butcher team from Eastleigh, were named ‘supreme champion’ of the event.
