MORE than 100 people attended a lecture to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta.

Members of Portsdown U3A and other local U3As listened to guest speaker Nicholas Vincent, professor of medieval history at the University of East Anglia and principal investigator for the current Magna Carta project.

Carole Chapman, business secretary at Portsdown U3A, said: ‘Given Professor Vincent’s status as an expert in his field, and his list of publications, his listeners expected an enthralling afternoon and they were certainly not disappointed.

‘Professor Vincent combined an absolute masterly of his subject with a wit and pace in his delivery that transported the audience into the complexities of 13th century politics and beyond.
