SPORT-MAD customers will represent their local pub in a national football tournament.

A team of six regulars from The Fleet pub, in King Henry I Street, Southsea will battle it out against pubs from around the country in the regional finals of the Carlsberg Pub Cup in Sheffield tomorrow.

The winners will then take part in the grand final of the competition at The Emirates, the home ground of Arsenal.

The Portsmouth locals made it through to the regional final after beating other teams in the heat stages.

Captain Richard Smerdon said: ‘We are really excited to have qualified to the regional final of the Carlsberg Pub Cup after a really tough tournament.’

The winner of the grand final will then play against former elite footballers from Real Madrid, Barcelona Liverpool and Chelsea under the management of former England international Gareth Southgate.

They will also get the chance to watch England play Sweden at UEFA Euro 2012.

Mr Southgate said: ‘This is a great opportunity for Richard Smerdon to captain a winning team to play at Emirates Stadium.

‘The winning team will get to watch England play in style.

‘This really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’
