Staff add extra spark to residents' parties

‘I just remember a white cloud and a huge, horrific noise’

PENSIONERS at two care homes were treated to Christmas parties thanks to fundraising by employees at an energy company.

Staff from Southern Electric's customer service centre in Penner Road, Havant, gave added spark to the homes for the elderly by raising hundreds of pounds for Christmas parties.

Led by team managers Sue Kettle and Jill Tallett, staff held various events, including a car boot sale and a coffee morning to raise more than 400.

This money, along with contributions from friends, family and businesses, was used to provide a Christmas party to residents at Eileen Beard House, in Bartons Road, Havant, which provides sheltered accommodation for the elderly.

The staff went to the centre dressed as Santa's 'smiley 'elpers' to provide goodie bags for every resident, then entertained them with music, a quiz and bingo.

The idea was inspired by Jill Tallett, whose mother manages the centre.

And another group of staff held a Christmas party at the Stacey Community Centre, Walsall Road, Portsmouth for charity Contact the Elderly.

Vicki and her team raised around 200 to provide a buffet and gifts as well as entertaining with music, singing and bingo.

Sue Templeton, Southern Electric's Community at Heart spokesman, said: 'Everyone has enjoyed organising these parties for the elderly residents, because we could see how much everyone enjoyed our efforts.

'What makes these parties even more special is that some of our own family and friends joined in to help us run them.

'It's made a lovely end to the year.'
