PEOPLE are being encouraged to sign up to a service and see if they can save money on their energy bills.

As part of Big Energy Saving Week, which starts on Monday, Hampshire County Council is encouraging people to sign up to Switch Hampshire.

The scheme is open to everyone who uses gas and/or electricity, including those on pre-payment meters.

Councillor Mel Kendal, the county council’s lead for income and capital resources, said: ‘Campaigns like Big Energy Saving Week are a great way of reminding people to check their gas and electricity bills to see if they are paying over the odds.

‘I’d encourage anyone who has not switched in the past, or who is just baffled by the whole energy market, to join up and let Switch Hampshire take the hassle out of trying to find a cheaper tariff and switching for them.

‘I think some people will be very surprised how much money can be saved.’
