THE vice-chancellor of the University of Portsmouth has spoken of his sadness after the death of one of his students.

As reported in The News, a 20-year-old man died after falling from a University of Portsmouth building yesterday afternoon.

The university has confirmed the student was Matthew Cole, who was in his final year studying forensic psychology.

Professor Graham Galbraith, said: ‘It is with great sadness that I have to confirm the tragic death of one of our students, Matthew Cole.

‘Matthew, 20, was a final year forensic psychology student who was described by his tutor as a personable and friendly student who was progressing well with his studies.

‘The university community of staff and students feel a deep sense of shock at this tragic loss of life.

‘We send our heartfelt condolences to Matthew’s family and friends who have the full support of the University at this difficult time.’
