FIREFIGHTERS are urging people to be more careful after a group of students set off a fire alarm.

The group, who live in student accommodation in Hambrook Street, Southsea, were on their way out when they knocked the alarm on the wall, which alerted Southsea fire station.

Firefighters turned up just after midnight yesterday to find there was nothing wrong.

Crew manager Chris Moregate said: ‘We urge people to be careful because our resources could have been used to tackle an actual fire elsewhere.’
