CHILLIES were the order of the day at West Dean’s Chilli Fiesta weekend.

The festival, now in its 19th year, attracted people from all over the country to the South Downs.

The chilli celebration was sizzling with guest stars, including Celebrity MasterChef contestant, dancer and Stepping Out judge Wayne Sleep.

He said: ‘I’m thrilled to be able to attend the 2014 Chilli Fiesta and to enjoy a stroll around the beautiful West Dean Gardens.’

Wayne appeared with seasonal cook Rosemary Moon on Saturday. Also taking part in the festival was award-winning chocolatier Paul Wayne Gregory, who created a range of chilli chocolates for the festival.

When asked why the festival was so popular spokeswoman Irene Caswell said: ‘The fiesta offers a wide range of entertainment including live music, the opportunity to buy chilli foods, plants and gifts, and activities for children, plus expert advice on growing and cooking with chillies at home in the gardening and cookery theatre.’

Despite the scorching entertainment, including over 150 stalls, live Latin and salsa bands, the stars of the show, the chillis, were not forgotten.

Visitors had the opportunity to see over 250 varieties of chilli grown in award-winning Victorian glass houses.
