Superb efforts by Clanfield villagers in summer show

GARDENING expert Brian Kidd was on hand to bestow awards at Clanfield’s annual summer show.

Sunny weather brought out scores of visitors to the Memorial Hall for Clanfield Gardening Club’s Horticultural Show.

Show secretary Keith Harwood said that entries were nearly half that of the last few years.

Although entries were well down, club chairwoman, Margaret Austin, was very pleased with the quality and scope of the exhibits.

The prizewinners were Sam Tate and Natasha Sellis in the Under Eights, and Hannah Johnson and Alice Johnson in the eight to 11 years category.

Special awards were given to Sam and Hannah for the highest number of points.

Jean Bedford picked up the Carol Edney Cup and Mike Pritchard was awarded the David Mason Cup, the Neville Valentine Memorial Plaque and the President’s Cup.

Linda Pridham was awarded a hat-rick of trophies, the Keydell Nursery Rose Bowl, Clanfield Gardening Club Silver Trophy and the Lynton White Challenge Cup.

Winning the Len Scott Cup was Carol Thomas, The Pearce Cup was awarded to Jennie Game and Margaret Austin won the Broderick Cup.

Derek Heath won two trophies, the Frank Lindsell Memorial Cup and the Divall Cup.

Mark Ward was awarded the Magic Box Cup and the Clanfield Gardening Club Gold Trophy.
