SCORES of people took part in a beach clean organised by the Blue Reef Aquarium.

More than 50 volunteers joined staff from the aquarium to take part in the ‘Wild Waters Beach Clean’.

The event, which was carried out with the Southsea Beach Group, attracted a wide a range of helpers including students, Scouts, and local businesses.

The clean-up was the first in a week-long series of events organised by the aquarium to raise awareness of the marine environment.

Blue Reef’s Jen Atkinson said: ‘To be honest, we were overwhelmed by the level of support we got from the volunteers.

‘Having so many people made a huge difference and it meant we were able to clear a larger-than-planned area of the beach.’
