SWITCHING over to digital television went without a hitch, thanks to a team of hard-working volunteers.

The team at Community First East Hampshire’s volunteer centre in Petersfield were definitely switched on as they received their certificates for being part of the communities programme for the Digital TV Switchover.

The scheme started last autumn and ended last week and ensured that scores of elderly and vulnerable people were able to carry on watching television.

Volunteers pounded the streets and spoke to people in the local community who needed a bit of extra help.

Helen Freeston, volunteer projects co-ordinator, said: ‘This has been a very worthwhile project and we have been very fortunate to engage with so many enthusiastic and helpful people who have wanted to support people in their community who needed help with switching over to Digital TV.

‘For many people the TV is their lifeline and it was imperative that we reached as many people as possible so that this wouldn’t be lost.’
