LAST year was the year the selfie rose to prominence, so it seems only right that those celebrating Blue Day should take snaps of themselves.

This year’s fundraiser takes place on Friday, May 2 and raises money for the Tom Prince Cancer Trust.

People are encouraged to dress in blue and take part in blue-themed activities.

As part of the day, people are now being invited to take a selfie dressed in blue.

Tom’s cousin Alison Prince, who is helping to organise the selfie pictures, said: ‘A selfie is such a popular and fun thing to do. Why not do it and do something for the charity at the same time?

‘Have something blue on or paint your face blue. People can use their imagination.’

Alison said the family are very grateful for the support.

‘To be able to be connected to something like Blue Day and to be supported by the people of Portsmouth is overwhelming,’ she said.

‘I hope that each year we can encourage more people to get on board.’

The charity was started in memory of Tom Prince who died from bone cancer osteosarcoma a day before his 16th birthday.

His family decided to start the trust and have organised Blue Day with The News since 2008, when Pompey won the FA Cup.

So far, they have raised around £855,000.

To take part, post a picture of yourself either wearing blue or holding something blue on the Tom Prince Cancer Trust Facebook group using the hashtag #bluedayselfie.

To donate send a text saying ‘BLDS99 £[enter amount]’ to 70070 or visit justgiving.com/BlueDaySelfie2014.
