TAKING the strain for their team, workers at the University of Portsmouth challenged each other to a tug of war in aid of charity.

The university’s sports and recreation department organised the staff sports day in aid of Brain Tumour Research – which runs its research centre from the campus – and raised around £1,000 for the cause.

There were traditional races for the 160 competitors at the event at Ravelin Park, from three-legged to bean bag races, an It’s a Knockout course, and a raffle.

Brain Tumour Research’s campaign manager Hugh Adams, pictured above, said: ‘It was great fun – everyone was in high spirits and really behind the cause.’
