THE city was inked up as the Portsmouth Tattoo Convention was held for the 16th time.

The event, at the Guildhall, showcased tattooists from all over the world including the USA, Samoa and Thailand.

The co-owner of the convention, Shirley Willett, took over the event with her husband Steve five years ago.

Mrs Willett said: ‘People come because all the tattooists are under one roof.

‘The public gets up close and personal with the artists, something they can’t normally do.

‘This year the convention went really well.

‘We had a very good turnout in spite of the British weather.’

Tattoo artists were able to demonstrate their flare to the public as they competed for the convention’s awards.
