A MAIN road filled with smoke after a car’s engine caught fire.

Firefighters were called to Cosham High Street yesterday at 3.43pm to reports of a car fire next to the railway station.

The fire is believed to have been caused by an engine fault affecting a silver Fiat people carrier working as an Aquacars taxi.

A section of the pavement was closed while firefighters dealt with the incident and passers-by said it filled the whole street with smoke.

Firefighters from Cosham had dealt with the fire by 4pm.
