MEMBERS of the Fareham West Townswomen’s Guild celebrated the organisation’s 60th anniversary this week.

Afternoon tea complete with birthday cake baked by one of the members was enjoyed by dozens of ladies at St John’s Church Hall in St Michael’s Grove.

Jackie Walker, secretary of the guild, said the afternoon had been ‘really lovely’.

She said: ‘It all started in 1953 so we were celebrating its conception in the local area.

‘We had a 60th birthday cake with smaller cakes and other food. Everyone enjoyed it and all the members had a lovely time. Everyone was really full up.’

The anniversary celebration was held during one of the group’s regular meetings.

It has 55 members and meets on the third Wednesday of each month.
