POLICE have released the name of a teenage girl who died following a car crash in Havant last night.

Payton Sparks, 16, from Botley Drive in Havant, died when the car she was travelling in left the road and hit a building at 10.42pm.

The three teenagers were in a Vauxhall Tigra which struck a building, part of Staunton Country Park premises, at Petersfield Road.

The driver, a 19-year-old man from Hayling Island, suffered serious injuries and is currently in intensive care at Queen Alexandra Hospital.

A 14-year-old boy, from Havant, who was travelling in the rear seat of the vehicle, also sustained serious leg and head injuries and is being treated at Southampton General Hospital.

Sergeant Rob Heard, leading the investigation for the Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘This is a very tragic incident which has led to the loss of a young girl’s life.

‘We are focusing on establishing what the teenagers were doing in the hours preceding the collision, and are very keen to hear from anyone who saw a green Vauxhall Tigra being driven in the Leigh Park and Havant area from 10pm onwards last night.

‘If you think you saw it, please get in touch and help us piece together what happened.’

All services were at the scene including firefighters from Havant and Cosham fire stations. The building was unoccupied and nobody else was hurt.
