A TEENAGER remains in critical condition following the crash of a speedboat in the Solent.

Seventeen-year-old Simon Dredge was in the Vector Powerboat prototype with his father Peter and two other men.

The boat crashed into a buoy and overturned yesterday near the Warsash Maritime Academy.

Racing champion Mr Dredge was piloting the powerboat when the incident happened.

All four men were taken to Southampton General Hospital where Simon remains in a critical condition.

A rescue helicopter and police marine unit from Lee-on-the-Solent were sent to the accident which happened at around 8.20am.
