ALIENS and fairies marched side by side through the heart of Paulsgrove on their way to the area’s carnival.

They were among pipers, baton twirlers and African drummers who all took part in the procession to the Paulsgrove and Wymering Carnival.

But it was Portsmouth 53rd Scout Group that took the golden trophy for their Doctor Who costumes, which were rated out of this world by judge Deputy Mayor of Portsmouth Councillor Frank Jonas.

The Deputy Mayor also awarded Victory Primary School with second prize and King Richard School were third.

Hundreds of people turned to welcome the procession, and enjoy the rides and stalls. There was also a host of performances from local bands and talent.

David Horne, one of the organisers, said: ‘It went really well and we were very impressed with the costumes, they were brilliant. It’s great to get the whole community together and just have fun.’
