FIVE friends will be cycling, swimming and kayaking for charity.

The group of 16-year-olds will be taking part in a triathlon charity event but have decided to kayak rather than run.

Fundraising for the RNLI, the girls decided to organise the event as part of their National Citizens Service programme.

The government scheme gives young people the chance to take part in different outdoor activities, develop skills, as well as help out the local community.

Alice Chatband, 16, said: ‘We are all excited about the triathlon and we can’t wait to get going.

‘We are all part of the National Citizens Service programme and, at the end of it, you have to raise money for charity.

‘We thought the RNLI was a perfect choice being a coastal city and we are all quite active so it should be fun.’

Alice will be joined by Karena Bahsoon, Abi Allen, Grace Oyegbile and Nancy Adams.
