The Fire Fighters Charity to benefit from Spinnaker Tower abseil

THE FAMILY of one of the Hampshire firefighters who died in a tower block blaze will be doing a charity abseil down Spinnaker Tower.

As previously reported, Alan Bannon and Jim Shears died in a fire in Shirley Towers, Southampton, in April 2010.

Mr Bannon’s widow Charlotte and his sister Lin want to say thank you to the people who helped them.

The pair have come together as Team Bert – Alan’s firefighter nickname – to scale down the Gunwharf Quays tower on May 11, and raise money for The Fire Fighters Charity.

To support Charlotte and Lin, visit justgiving.com/teams/Bert.

Or text the message Bert71, followed by the amount you would like to donate, to 70070.
