The King at the Kings

HOUND DOG David Gossage with Lee Memphis King backstage at the Kings Theatre

HOUND DOG David Gossage with Lee Memphis King backstage at the Kings Theatre

LUCKY David Gossage was all shook up on his birthday when he got the chance to meet Elvis tribute act Lee Memphis King at The Kings Theatre in Southsea.

Mr Gossage, who has been an Elvis fan since he released his first song, said: ‘It was absolutely perfect. The moment he started singing, I sat back, closed my eyes, and said to my wife, “That’s him, that’s Elvis”’

There was certainly no suspicion on David’s mind that Lee, one of the Europe’s most successful Elvis tribute artists, was not pitch-perfect.

Their five minute meeting took place in the interval.

The meeting was set up by David’s friend, who works at the theatre.

Mr Gossage added: ‘When I met my wife, she hated Elvis. I’ve managed to convert her into a fan.’
