CHRISTMAS is a time of the year where nobody should be alone, yet a certain local hero doesn’t celebrate it with his family, instead he sets his sights on helping others, especially those in need.

Local legend and charity fundraiser known as Elvis can be seen most days working alongside his fellow colleagues on one of Gosport’s waste disposal rounds – to much of the residents delights.

One woman in particular even recalled, fondly, the time she met him when she wrote to his manager stating ‘A lovely man came to fix my wheelie bin today, and I was overjoyed you sent the Elvis lookalike.

‘Thank you very much.’ Now, that’s exactly where this gentleman gets his nickname from, as he really does resemble a certain King of rock ‘n’ roll.

Our Elvis has put his magical touch on a lot of people’s lives over the years, including my own.

It’s not often you can meet someone so genuinely kind and caring, he lives by the motto: ‘My pockets aren’t deep but my heart is’.

So far, he has currently raised over £280 for various charities including Aiden’s Walking Appeal and The Lullaby Foundation, as well as the local girl guides by selling mugs with his photo on.

The cost of each mug – £4 – is donated out of his wages each month, and then all the proceeds go to the charity he’s collecting for.

On occasion, he’s even donated the sale of the mug money himself to give them as gifts to people he meets along the way.

To me, this is the ultimate act of kindness.

I give to charity every month, but to invest his own money into making more money to give is a clever and innovative idea.

This month we are helping Elvis produce a mug with the above photo on it – with all the proceeds going to The Lullaby Foundation.

The mug made by KD Kreate also carries the inscription: Merry Christmas, from Elvis – Gosport Bin Man.

If you would like to do your bit for a wonderful cause and want to order your own in time for Christmas, please contact us through our website below.

Each mug is just £10 and can be collected from our home address on December 20.

Well done and Merry Christmas, Elvis!
