POMPEY boss Guy Whittingham has welcomed the Spinnaker Tower turning red, white and blue in support of the football club’s recent takeover by fans.

The tower was lit up on Saturday evening, on the final day of the season after Pompey’s 3-2 defeat at Shrewsbury.

Guy, who was officially appointed as Pompey manager on Wednesday, said: ‘It is a fantastic idea by the owners of the tower.

‘It is a terrific gesture to mark the new era at the club.’

Chairman Iain McInnes added: ‘We are touched the tower wanted to mark the community buy-out of the club in this way.

‘It is two iconic brands
which put the city of Portsmouth on the map coming together to show everyone the community spirit which exists here.’
