A YEAR and a half ago the Lions Club of Hayling Island signed an agreement with a shop owner and decided to open a community shop.

The intention was firstly to completely refurbish the building.

We would manage it with Lion members and friends.

No-one would be paid and a promise was made that every penny profit would be returned to the benefit of the island community.

The public response was fantastic. All who have spoken to us have said ‘what an amazing achievement’.

Yet it is YOU, the citizens of Hayling Island who have created over £40,000 in one year.

You have donated the goods, you have bought them.   You have created this profit.

Already our island is seeing the results of this effort.

There have been a few major donations such as financing a new entrance to the Bridge Centre and assisting with the refurbishment of a school library.

Both of these were over £5,000.

By far the major amount went to island associations and people with needs.

Christmas was a special as ever.

Most senior citizens’ organisations were helped by financing Christmas dinners.

A number of children and families whose Christmas would have been like any other day enjoyed the season with your help.

Anyone who has helped by giving, buying or helping in any way should feel proud

We do try to spend your money carefully and wisely, keeping you informed via notices in the shop and in the local media.

We hope you approve. Keep your support coming.

There may be no limit to your achievements.
