BEING the Mayor of Gosport is fantastic.

There are so many people doing so many good things around the Gosport area and it is a privilege to be a part of it.

The job comes with a huge variety of invitations to events, ranging from The Gosporteers Southern Motor Show to charity tea parties.

They are all so different, there are so many good people in our community and it’s a pleasure to attend them.

There appears to be a positive public response to my election.

I’ve given my all to every aspect of the role.

I’ve had positive feedback from the events I’ve attended so far, and hopefully this will continue.

Charities are a key concept and these are supported by organising events to raise funds across the year.

As well as Motiv8 and Learning to Sail, Connect Advocacy is particularly important.

The local charity aims to encourage adults with learning difficulties to ‘speak out and have their say’ and it invites local businesses to become involved.

The main goals for my year as mayor are to encourage everyone to take part and engage in the Gosport community.

There are always great things going on here.

Gosport is working with Enterprise Zone at Daedalus to support local economic and employment growth – I believe this can boost the prospects of the community.

As a resident of the borough for more than 35 years a focus of mine is to increase awareness of the benefits of living in Gosport.

I am passionate about the area and have pride in it.

My wife Christine Beavis and I are really delighted to be mayor and mayoress.
