Gosport resident Tina Helme talks about her background and events happening around the town in the lead-up to Christmas

There’s a vertiable sleigh-load of events being planned around Gosport to help you get in the Chrismtas spirit.

A couple of Christmas markets are happening this Friday.

There wlll be one at Leesland Federation Infant and Junior Schools in Gordon Road, which will raise money for the school swimming pool. The fair will run from 2pm to 4pm.

On the same day, Woodcot Primary School in Tukes Avenue, Bridgemary, is having a fair, starting at 3.15pm.

A Christmas fair at Christ Church in Stoke Road, Gosport, will also celebrate a special milestone – the church is 150 years old this year.

The fair will take place on Saturday and include a raffle, stalls and refreshments.

Thorngate Halls are hosting Gosport Community Association Christmas fair with Father Christmas visiting on December 6.

There will be stalls selling cards and gifts.

Holy Trinity Church in Gosport has planned a music afternoon on December 15.

The event will raise money for the mayor’s charity appeal.

Geoffrey Holroyde will be their guest speaker and play the organ.

There will be a Christmas crib festival at Gosport Methodist church in Stoke Road on December 19 from 10am to 5.30pm, and on December 20 from midday to 4pm.

There will be nativity features and a seasonal art gallery to view.

The Welcome store in Tukes Avenue, Bridgemary, is hosting a mulled wine and mince pie evening on December 19 from 4pm until 6pm.

This festive get-together will feature a decorate-a-hat competition and there will be a friendly atmosphere.

Saint Thomas the Apostle church on the corner of Elson Road and Elson Lane has an open day on December 19 from midday until 8pm.

Gosport is to have a new bus station built at the interchange near to the Gosport ferry area.

There will be a new café, a restaurant and new shops which will all help Gosport welcome the world to the town.
