TWO brothers have completed an arduous cycle ride to help a charity and their beloved football club.
Luke and Liam Hurren, from Fareham, decided to cycle from Brighton Pier to Fratton Park for Kidney Research because Luke’s son Olly suffers from kidney disease.
The brothers are also passionate football fans and wanted to support Pompey Supporters’ Trust in its bid to take ownership at Fratton Park. But they picked one of the most miserable days to do the cycle last week and it was tough going.
Luke, 22, of Trinity Street, said: ‘I’m not exaggerating – it was brutal, and by far the most physically and mentally demanding thing I’ve done.
‘We set off from Fareham railway station at 7am and it started snowing. After eight hours of cycling we arrived at Fratton Park. The temptation to quit and catch the train home was immense but we resisted and completed the journey much to sheer delight of our families once we contacted them.
‘As we cycled down Anson Road, we held a corner each of the FA Cup winners flag. I lowered my head in relief but Liam picked up the flag and ran around the car park screaming “we done it, we done it, Blue Army!”.’
They raised £300 for Kidney Research and £550 for the trust.
