ROBERT SIMMONDS’ partner fought back tears as she described how she had lost a shining light in her life.

An inquest heard yesterday that experienced motorcyclist Mr Simmonds died after colliding with the back of a lorry when he was distracted by a paper bag that blew up from the road.

The 49-year-old, of Blackmoor Walk, West Leigh, Havant, suffered fatal injuries to his chest and back following the horrific collision on the M27 westbound, close to junction 5 at Eastleigh.

After the inquest, Gena Cortopassi, 36, Mr Simmonds’ partner of five years, said: ‘He will be missed.

‘He was larger than life. He was everything – not just to me, but my children and his children.’

Mr Simmonds worked as a crane operator and was riding to work in the New Forest on the day of the crash.

Ms Cortopassi added: ‘Just think twice before you throw rubbish out of the window.’
