HAVE you ever wondered how Sherlock Holmes is able to unravel mysteries?
Tonight is your chance to learn how to harness your brain power like Arthur Conan-Doyle’s great fictional detective.
As part of Portsmouth Thought Festival’s winter programme, New York based writer and psychologist Maria Konnikova will discuss her book Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes.
The book is inspired by Miss Konnikova’s work for Scientific American where she has a weekly column.
The Harvard graduate will talk to the University of Portsmouth’s Dr Christopher Pittard tonight at The Portsmouth History Centre, in the Central Library, from 6.30pm.
It is part of an ongoing festival of ideas which celebrates non-fiction. It comes under the umbrella of Portsmouth: Home of Great Writing and includes Portsmouth Book Fest later this year.
Festival programmer and literature development officer for the city, Dom Kippin, said: ‘Over the last three years the city of Portsmouth has moved literature to the heart of its cultural agenda.
‘From Dickens 2012 to the Portsmouth BookFest, we try to offer a variety of events that will appeal to everyone.
‘Portsmouth Thought is a way for people to hear the best minds around talking about ideas and issues that effect us all.’
