A VARIETY show has been hailed a success after it raised thousands of pounds for the charity Children in Need.

The Kings Theatre Children in Need variety show pulled in more than £6,000 towards the cause.

Guests were treated to singing performances from former X Factor contestants Same Difference and BBC weather presenter Alexis Green. Local comedy acts graced the stage and peoples’ wacky fundraising efforts were also showcased on a screen for everyone to see.

The evening, which took place on November 15, also saw performances from Manic Stage Productions and Portsmouth Grammar School showcased their take on 1939 musical The Wizard of Oz.

There was a raffle draw and a chance to see the famous yellow bear.

Cash for the charity was also raised by £1 ticket entries and donations on the night.

Sandra Smith, group bookings and promotions manager at The Kings Theatre, on Albert Road, Southsea, said:

‘I want to say a big thankyou to everyone who took part.

‘It was a fantastic show and the amount raised was absolutely fantastic.

‘All the acts gave up their time for free because they wanted to do all they could for such a worthwhile cause.

‘The atmosphere was brilliant and everyone enjoyed themselves and got stuck in on the fun.’

Hundreds of people from across the region also raised impressive amounts for Children in Need last month.
