THOUSANDS of pounds were raised for charity by dedicated Rotarians over the festive season.

Members of the Rotary Club of Fareham gave up their time to hold a collection and perform carols over four days.

Generous shoppers at Sainsbury’s in Broadcut, Fareham, and in Fareham Shopping Centre donated £4,235.

Rotary Club of Fareham president Pamela Bryant said: ‘It never ceases to amaze me how generous the people of Fareham can be.

‘It’s a busy time of year and shoppers’ priorities mean they are time-pressured yet they stopped to support our charity collections which will help so many people.’

The money will go to the Rotary’s Eradication of Polio Appeal, which aims to reduce the numbers of sufferers throughout the world.

Some of the donations will also support the Rotary Dentaid Box scheme, which aims to improve the oral health of disadvantaged communities around the world, as well as the many local charities to which the Rotary Club donates funds.
