THOUSANDS of people lined the waterfront at Gunwharf Quays to watch an impressive firework display last night.
Families gathered outside restaurants to watch the fireworks light up the night sky over the water.
The bright colours lit up the Spinnaker Tower and surrounding shops.
From big rocket displays to small, colourful waterfalls, the range of fireworks were a hit with the crowd who clapped and cheered after the finale.
Gemma Lansley and her fiance Neil Sheppard were at the fireworks for the first time with their children Oliver 11, William, five, and two-year-old George.
Gemma, from Copnor, said: ‘The fireworks were brilliant.
‘It was the first time we had been to Gunwharf for the fireworks for years but they were great. We managed to make a whole evening out if it because we had something to eat too.
‘So we did this for Halloween instead of trick or treating.’ Oliver added: ‘It was fun.
‘I liked the big fireworks which made a massive bang.’
Sisters Sarah and Chloe Musson enjoyed the big, loud fireworks. They went to Gunwharf with their mum and family friends.
Seven-year-old Sarah said: ‘They were really good. I liked the ones that made a big bang.’
Chloe, five, added: ‘I liked all the colours. It was lots of fun.’
It was the first time the pair had been to Gunwharf with their mum.
Family friend Emily Owen, from Copnor Road in Copnor, said the crowds had grown over the years.
The 24-year-old said: ‘A couple of years ago, I was working in the restaurant Giraffe and it was busy but nothing like this year.
‘It has definitely got bigger and the fireworks display was one of the best I have ever seen. They were brilliant.’
