A SOUTHSEA cafe was badly damaged by a fire forcing customers and residents nearby to be evacuated.

Three fire crews were needed to tackle a blaze at Smile Cafe in Marmion Road on Saturday morning.

The fire started in the kitchen.

Firefighters closed the road while they dealt with it.

On the cafe’s Facebook page, a spokesman wrote: ‘Unfortunately today Smile had a kitchen fire.

‘The kitchen has been badly damaged, so we will be closed for a while.

‘All customers, staff and residents above were quickly moved to safety.’
